Beaches on the Island of Unst, Shetland

Haroldswick bay, one of Unst’s finest, is situated directly in front of the house. It is not unusual to watch porpoise swimming whilst you sit in the sun lounge enjoying your breakfast or an evening glass of wine! Our regular seal family are often seen swimming in front of the garden. It is not unheard of to see Orca visit the bay and cause havoc! For birders, the display of diving gannets and terns plunging into the bay is a spectacular sight. Behind the house, the land rises, through the fields to the hills where you can see local Shetland ponies and sheep. If you are lucky you may also see an otter crossing the lawn as they run to the neighbouring pool or bay. The coastline offers easy unrestricted walking for many miles. You will find other beaches throughout Unst and the rest of Shetland- wherever you are there is a beach near you and you will often have it to yourself!
